One of my early finds?

[2moshers]

About the size of a 1/2 dollar I found this near an old church some time ago. The center is hinged at the top. Curious as to exactly what it might be? Front and back views. Thanks

Maybe a picture broach?

my guess is a damper for an antique lantern

Found this pic some time ago which is somewhat similar to what I have?

2moshers, yours appears to say 'world war veteran' and then something at the bottom where it's broken

I believe what I have is much older (although I could be wrong). I can just barely make out a small design of sorts on the front. Has had me wondering what it may be for some time. Here is another pic of the front.
