Managed to squeeze in a few hours of detecting yesterday with a buddy at a site that has produced some early stuff in the past. This place is super trashy, but we were able to pick a few keepers out of there. My buddy pulled out a couple of flat buttons, shoe buckle pieces and a wheat cent. I ended up with some buckle pieces, a plain flat button, a blow hole and this really cool cast button with a hunting scene on it. Found a close match to it online advertised as being early 1700's. Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas! 12-23-17 008.webp12-23-17 009.webp12-23-17 010.webp12-23-17 011.webp

That’s a really nice button man! It looks every bit of old:)

Awesome --love it :occasion14:

For some odd reason I love finding buttons. This is a very cool find and I would definitely research its history.

Very cool button indeed, congrats on the recovery.

Very unique and old button there mate. I wonder if it is pewter and may need to be preserved to avoid and further deterioration? I don't get many old pewter buttons and am not really sure which method is best for preserving them? Some have used diluted Elmer's glue I believe. She's a beauty for sure. :headbang:

Really cool button. Great find! :occasion14:

Thanks Man!

Very interesting pewter button, construction is certainly 18th century. Hopefully a bit of research can help to you get a positive ID.
Thanks VMI! I'm pretty sure It's not pewter. Came out of the plug green. I'm guessing bronze or brass.

Thanks Evolution, Haven't been able to get out and hunt much lately, so that piece was a really nice surprise

Congratualtions on the very old interesting button! :occasion14:

drips history. And a very distinctive back-style. You can date that back-style seam from Warren-Tice's books.

Nice looking button. I like finding old buttons, just as much as coins.

Awesome, and your blow hole button is MID 18th century.

Cool button, not seen this variant, although the construction is more consistent with mid-late 18th C, not early as the inter-web stated.

Very cool button
Nice
