Bill Moore's recovery of 165 lbs of gold in 77 bars (!!!!), 7 disks and 7 chains from the Atocha in 1985.

Just goes to show you what you can find in a very small area on the bottom of the ocean.

Bill's pile of gold came from near the main pile of the Atocha.

If memory serves me, Bobby Jordan was long out of the picture by then. And Bobby's recoveries came off the Santa Margarita anyway.

Great post Tom! Bill is truly a unique individual. When I got the opportunity to work with him for several months in the lab, I quickly realized just how talented (and ingenius) he truly is. Aside from being a treasure recoverer, I saw him do high-level math, database design, video editing, website designing, and artifact conservation....in one day. On top of that he's a genuinely nice guy.

He is one of the good ones, I know lots of us know him so tell him thanks next time you see him. His relationshp with the archaeologists in Tallahassee is part of what lets us do what we do here in Florida, especially on the 1715 Fleet.

GREAT POST! Mad for wrecks......

We are back from our emergency road trip to the Smokey Mountains
of North Carolina..... We have been following the great news of finds
by one of the sub contractors at our Jupiter Historic Shipwreck Site early this season....

Lets go out soon and see if we can come close to matching Bill and this
posts - finds.....

P.S. It will be nice if we can do it in one day as well..... at today's fuel costs!
