One of Those Days

Snuck off to the beach today with my two boys while mom was working. Two and half hour drive to where we were going. I waited till this morning to load things into the car grabbing this and that as I saw it. We arrived at the beach on time and I carried everything in one trip from the car to the sand, spread out two towels and started putting my Garrett Infinium together as the boys started playing in the sand. Since I was going to be hunting the surf, I was going to use the land headphones. I planned on staying less than chest deep so that would not be a problem. As I was getting the headphones out of the bag, I noticed one of the pins had gotten bent in a fashion that would not allow it to seat properly so I used my fingernail and gave it a little tug to straighten it up and POP! That's right, it broke and made them useless! No problem though I still had my water phones in the car. I walked back the two hundred yards to the car and whoops, no bag with the water phones. In my impromptu packing earlier in the day, I left that bag in the garage! No working headphones and the detector was useless. Well that left me with my backup Minelab Sovereign Beach Machine but the beach must have had about a million folks on it. I tried to hunt for a while with my boys following me playing it the surf as I walked the shoreline. Between the "Finding anythings?" and stepping out of everyone's way every five seconds, I didn't get much accomplished. The boys got tired of swimming and when they came out of the water, the wind was freezing them cold.

Decided that my choice for the trip wasn't a good one so I cut my losses, got the boys and equipment loaded up into the car and headed back home. We did have a good supper at IHOP and an uneventful trip back home other than the moron who pulled out in front of me.

One of those days!

Maybe next weekend will have a better story!

Chief, I know what you mean to only have one of something and you break or forget it.

I went to the beach once planning on using the Sov and had forgotten the head phones. Another time I forgot my scoop and had to turn around and go get it, and then I made one trip with out the swingy thing, I said the heck with it.

Now when I go, I carry 2 of most things:

2 Excals
1 Sov GT with 2 headsets and 2 coils (10 inch and 15 inch Wot)
2 Scoops
2 Swingy Things to support the detector
2 sets of water hunting belts with finds and trash bags
2 small containers of silicone grease
2 knives, 1 10 inch filet, 1 divers knife
2 small peiican waterproof containers
Bag with several spare nylon bolts for both Excal and Sov coils
Bag with several pairs of teardrop rubber washers
Bag of cable ties
Wet suit (farmer john bottoms, long sleeve top)

Everything but 1 Excal, the Sov detector and the wetsuit is in a rolling lockable golf case so I just have to take it to have all of it with me. I keep one of the scoops and a pair of water shoes in my van at all times.

I have a small carry on that I keep spare t-shirts, shorts, swim trunks, water shoes, towels and sunscreen in at all times.

I know it sounds nuts, but now if I forget something I still have a spare with me. I only have to check to see I have my carry on, the golf case, and my detectors. Even If I forgot the detectors, I would still have a spare Excal in the golf case.
