This is the first afternoon in two weeks that I have had time for a hunt after work. The only problem I had was no wheels . The wife will not let me take the car metal detecting I get dirt in it
and my truck was getting worked on . So I decided to walk the 4 blocks down to the wooded park close to me and go over some territory I have not hunted since last fall . I pulled three 18th century coppers from this area last year but I don;t get many signals there anymore but I was hoping the past two days of rain would help and I guess it did . The wristwatch is bezel base metal
I also found one small harness buckle and some latern pieces and the interesting British Guiana, One Stiver Trade and Navigation token dated 1838. Pure copper preferable to paper around the outside of the coin with the One Stiver within a circle in the center . It is a pretty good sized copper at 33mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick weighing in at 13.7 gms. I learned that these tokens circulated in British Guiana as well as the West Indies , Essequibo , Demerary, and ST. Bartholomew. Even though the token is in rough shape and has a very delicate patina I was pleased to find such an interesting coin. Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic
