One Week of Detecting SC with My Brother - A Few Old Finds and a Slice of Hum...

Hey everyone!

My brother and I took a detecting trip to central South Carolina this week. We got to spend time with old friends and got 4 full days of detecting in at some historic sites. 1800s stores, 1700s/1800s homes, even a plantation house that Sherman was rumored to have stayed at.

We had a lot of fun. We were hoping to come back with some old coinage (LC, Seated, etc.). Unfortunately that didn’t pan out. The sites were hunted hard. However, we did find some neat old buttons and met some great people.

Our second day in town we got to hop around with Carolina Tom. That was a great time. We hit 4 different 1700/1800 permissions. We did manage some old civilian buttons and wheats.

That 1962 Canadian Dime is by far the most tarnished, non-saltwater silver I’ve ever found. Really threw me for a loop when I first uncovered it.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting folks!

Sounds like fun. Wish you guys could have brought back some Spanish silver and early military buttons.

Thanks Steve, hopefully next time!! Might have to head to the N.E. per Carolina Tom’s recommendation.

Sounds like a few fun days of family and tnet comraderie. Congratulations on the Silver.

Good times and some good finds... can't ask for much more than that. SD

I got really lucky on my trip to the Carolinas. It would’ve been a blast as far as hunting goes if I didn’t magically pull up to silver quarters from a vacant lot.

A lot of the time we can be a little upset about the hunting conditions in Washington state, but I guess our experience here pays off, and we know how to pull up a Rosie

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Sounds like good time and got some keepers, congrats on all

Thanks all and thanks CF. Agreed. This trip taught me that local knowledge is key to having success when detecting. I have a good feel for what sites have been hunted and how heavily around the Seattle area. That helps me focus my efforts on the places I have the best chance of finding things. I don't have that same knowledge of South Carolina so I was flying a bit more blind.

Nice buttons and coins! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: Sounds like you two had a great time!

Looks like a great time, congrats! :occasion14:
