"Treasure is where you find it". Much to the dismay of my wife I have discovered online auctions that aren't nearly as restrictive as that "E" place.. I've been collecting Civil War & prior US weapons that are within my small budget. This one came alongand I had to have it. Paid less than the value of the parts. I'm still doing research as to whether it was shortened to a 2 band configuration by some talented farmer in his shed, a "Bannerman Special" or if it was done by an actual government arsenal. The barrel is exactly 33.5" and the stock still retains the rear and the front bands with no sign of it ever having a middle band. It has an added patchbox on the Left side with a hole drilled inside to hold a spare nipple. Barrel tang & lock are marked 1837. I've purchased many Bubba modified antique military muskets for parts that were clearly chopped short to be used as cheap shotguns but this is different. Opinions ?
