Only "The Forest" knows. . .

The last two days that I've hunted The Forest have been somewhat unusual.

This place dates dates back to the late 19th century and has seen much "revelry"
during the past 100 years. Even though it may not measure up to the "Colonial Coppa"
territory out east, it's been a pretty decent place to hunt by "burb" standards. . . and it's fairly close.

When I went out there yesterday, I planned on hunting the forested areas as it was the
only time of the year that the underbrush would be rather forgiving. During the past
several hunts, The Forest has given me a Barber, two V-Nickels plus, a few Wheat's
that were dated in the teens. Even though these finds were few and far between,
they were still keepers and I was hopeful that I might find a few more.

What I like about The Forest, there's always a lot of interesting things to be found ABOVE
ground, with the eyes. . .

As I was walking along a creek that ran through the woods, I found a few glass bottles,
a pocket knife, a set of keys plus, a few "what's its" that were either dumped or had
been washed down from some of the steeper slopes.

OK, now here's where it gets interesting. . .

YESTERDAY. . .
while hunting The Forest, I lucked out and dug a 1912-D V-Nickel and a 1916-D Wheat Cent :o
Well, after these two finds, I wouldn't have cared if I didn't find another coin all week :D

TODAY. . .
I go back to The Forest hoping to find more old coins (OK, I lied about the not caring part ::)).
My first find of the day was another 1916-D Wheat Cent! What are the odds of this?
OK, so now I'm thinking, wouldn't it be cool to find another V-Nickel?
Well, wonders never cease. . . and it's the SAME DATE! :o

I guess only The Forest Knows. . . :o

Thanks for looking & HH!

Awesome finds. Keep hitting those woods. That last curved iron piece looks like a leaf spring to me. Just a guess.

Re: Only "The Forest" knows. . .

Thank you everyone for all the comments.

From what I've learned in conversations with some of the "old-timers" that
have been hunting out here in The Forest, a few gold coins have been found.

(Hmmm. . . I wonder how many golds were made in 1912. . . :))

Take care & HH!

Nice finds,

That's all I hunt is the woods. Love being in them. Everything is relatively old to. Even if it's alot of bullets and iron. I've found countless amounts of old coins and relics in the woods also. Now is the time to be huntuing them.

Great finds! Good luck on the gold!

Do you know what had been there? I am surrounded by forests, but I don;t know that I would hunt any. What clue tipped you off to that spot?

This area was officially opened as a picnic grove back in the early 1900's and I was able to track down a map (historical society) from the 1930's that indicated the open grass and forested areas back then. When I compared these open areas with current aerial photos (Google maps), I found that many of these open areas at that time are now forested over so, those were the areas that I chose to hunt this spring.
