Oooh, I thought I had the fancy variety. D'oh! (1908 "small 8" Canada 5 Cent piece)

I hit a spot that I had been to many times with my old Xterra 70. I'm sure many others have hit it before as well, but I got lucky...

I was going after the deep signals all day. After digging quite a few nails, finally, it started to pay off. Sometimes it pays to be positive. I hauled out three large cents and a few pre 50's pennies. They're cleaning up right now. I'll post them later.

Here's the find of the day. I thought I had the key date "large 8" variety, but I guess it's the small eight 1908 fishscale.

It looks large to me!

Very nice Gio! I read your post here and instantly got out my Charlton Guide to look at the 8's. It looked large to me too, but I guess it is small. At any rate, that is a killer fishscale!

Thanks, J Cache. I was hoping it would be better news. :occasion14:

Definitely small. On the small 8 the inside of the top half is a small circle, where as the large 8 variety it's larger and oval.

Thanks for the identification tip IP. I'll have to get back out there and find an oval one.:laughing7:

Any silvers a good day in my book, congrats
