This question goes out to all the large volume hunters, mainly into halfs, although small volume hunters and other denomination hunters are welcome to post as well. My question is: How do you go about opening your rolls? Time is always of the essence when volume hunting, so I am wondering what techniques you guys use to open your half rolls, and other denominations. Personally, I crack the half rolls like an egg, and roll the coins into my hand, take a look, and then roll them into a bag. Takes about 4 minutes a box, but up to 6 minutes if I am paying extra close attention. For plastic wrapped coins, I slice all the wrappers down the middle, and dump the coins into 5 gallon buckets, and then go from there. I'll post a picture of what I crack the rolls on. Curious to here from you guys.

Dump box into cloth sack-like banks use. Take said sack and swing it over your head and whack it into the concrete. 2 or 3 times will do...Open. Remove paper. Enjoy. A box can be done in 2 minutes.......Actually 1:41 if you hurry....

This actually works quite well. Especially for pennies and dimes wrapped in plastic. Worked with halfs too, but ended up ripping my canvas bangs :(

I would like to see this too. It just doesn't seem humanly possible.

Not saying it's impossible. 6 minutes per box is 7.2 seconds per roll. That's fast, but doable for maybe one box. 4 minutes is 4.8 seconds per roll. That's approaching superhuman.

Ehh, maybeee, I'll post the vid tonight.

I don't sound check, I just take out anything that could or might be silver (the pile in front of me) and then I mark them all when I put them in the bag. The silvers go into a silver vase I picked up at a garage sale. Any metal heavy dudy thing will work, I was using the wood on the table, but it's all indented now, hence the hinge lol.

I'm impressed!

I use my fingernail to unroll the ends near the rims then unroll the paper in my hand and rim and sound check the coins.

Omega, I'm very impressed by the precision and speed with which you use your hinge-on-the desk.

One question: How do you actually get the actual roll open so quickly after banging the roll? It seems like banging the paper loosens the roll, but then at that Point, I still have to sort of pry the roll open, and pull extra hard at the crimped edges. With you, it seems like it just pops open! How how how?

Also, another question: How can you not yelp or shout something out when you find a keeper? :-)

Honestly I can't here the difference... Idk why, but it just doesn't seem to work for me, that is why I take out every coin that looks like it may be silver (the pile in front of me). I mark those coins afterwards to see if I get them back or not and so forth. I didn't find any silver in that box (I think?). And a 40& here and there isn't that exciting when you've pulled over 600 of them, when you see a box with multiple enders, that's exciting!

Pulling Silver isn't that exciting to you:tongue3:? We all get excited when we see enders, but, Finding a 40 or 2 could be the difference between a skunk box and finding 2 40's in a box, I've been doing this for years, I'm still excited to pull a couple of 40's outta a box ( and I have pulled 1435 40's so far this year) if I missed any of those, say 1 or 2 a week, that could be up to 100 40's a year, it does add up in the end but, to each his own I always say:icon_thumleft:. If you riffle the coins from one hand to the other with a Silver mixed in there, it is a very distinct sound (clink clink) you'll hear, the wood table will make it very hard to tell too, I search on our glass kitchen table. Well it is haha, especially when I haven't pulled in a while. But finding one in a box, box after box... haha
