Opinion on celt

what looks like chips out of the Celt is actually made that way to put thumbs in correct? also does it detract from the quality of item as opposed to one without thumb grooves? Thanks for info

Looks like a chip to me. I never heard of one with a "thumb groove". Other than the chip it looks like a nice one.

That really is a nice celt. I just don't see how that chip out of it would have worked well with a thumb. Never hear of anything like what you are speaking of.

Could this be damage due to fire? Land being burned off, that sort of thing.

Its a chip you are thinking on a Hand Ax. Yours is not a Hand Ax. That one would of had a handle on it.
