This might be kind of an odd question but here goes: I currently have several active BIN listings for nice sterling silver jewelry pieces, some fairly high-end, and will very shortly be adding several VERY nice 10-14k pieces I picked today. I also just sold a piece to someone who lives in my city that is shipping tomorrow. Will I have any problems with the USPS if I black out my home address and hand-write my new (secure) office address on the label, or can I reprint with a change of return address without paying postage twice?

I just realized immediately after printing the label today that I need to change the return address, both in general and also specifically here because I don't feel comfortable with some eBay random who lives 20 minutes from me having my home address when they can clearly see hundreds of dollars worth of gold & silver jewelry active in my store. Tomorrow I'll change my default shipped from address to reflect the location I'm transitioning my eBaying operation to, which is in a business park and much more secure.

I don't think you will have a problem , if you didn't change it on your eBay account it will probably show there though. A friend of mine and I met with a guy awhile back, said for us to get a po box to mail from or use as a address. Keeps the riff raff from the house! But he's right, it would be to easy to buy in a home town and go rob them if there was nice stuff they were selling.

Thanks for the input, I'll change it tomorrow and probably call eBay just to double-check what will/won't be visible. I feel a little naive for not having thought of this sooner as I've been selling for a few months now, but this last month or so I guess I've reached a point with sales volume (aka gotten good enough at eBay for me to be pulling in $500+/month consistently) that I realized my tiny apt in the ghetto is not the best address to publicize if I want to make sure my door doesn't get kicked in.

If I were handling a wider variety of items it wouldn't be as much of an issue imo but we've been focusing on the pm's (fast sales, cheap to ship, excellent profit margins). I should also be better about keeping that inventory at my "office" but 1. sticking to BINs means it's easier for me to sell to friends/CL/flea mkt and just cancel the listing if that happens and 2. I like being able to paw through my hoard/play dress up/test-drive things I'm considering keeping for myself.

I would change my address in Ebay and PP. Then go to the labels tab. If you hit reprint the label, it may show the new address. You don't get charged for reprinting, only for buying another one. (Ask me how I know.)

Lol Mugs, I know you can reprint labels because I reprinted some for a friend's acct on my printer for her a few months ago, BUT. Yesterday I was in a hurry, misplaced a label and tried to reprint but couldn't find the button and almost re-purchased the postage instead, I'm guessing you did something similar but have better follow-through than I do :) I ended up saying "Screw it" and then found the original label later. Thanks for the suggestions, will do.

Actually, I re-bought it. Guess how long it takes USPS to give you back your money when you void a label? Weeks.

Yeah, that is the annoying part about voiding a label.

Thanks for the info, doesn't surprise me at all that it takes the USPS an inordinate amount of time to issue a refund. I bet they make a non-negligible amount of $ off of people just not wanting to deal with it.

Been doing that for years. My P.O.box has a real street address and it is USPS. I never give my actual home address. I also have a few websites and it is easy to track most people down with websites. So when I register with godaddy I list my address as "unlisted for security purposes" I put a zip that is 20 miles away and the phone number is 714-000-0000
