Heard the soil in Virginia can be hard to hunt. Don't know if that's a fact really. Planning a trip there to do some research on my ancestors. Going to bring the Deus along. Figured I should take some time to do some hunting if I can. Anyone, from that area or been there that can give me some tips? Appreciate any and all.

Red Clay in Virginia is VERY hard to "work with", due to the HIGH Iron content of the soil. Why do ya think Orange County is thus named...? LOL!

Hmmm. I failed to equate the color with dirt which I should have. Dahhh. Here it's called red.

Yeah, when I did construction work here in Virginia, the Red Clay (Darker Orange, MORE Iron) was nasty stuff... 1st wife just hated that Red Clay; had to change the filter in our washing machine NUMEROUS times.
