I just found this at my parents' house. I've hunted there many times but it is a big place and now I am really taking my time and focusing on slowly going over small sections. It worked out today as I spent about 1 hour on a small square of yard- really happy to find this piece :hello2: and I also found a small pin that reads "2nd Quar Honor Student" and a 1956 wheat penny.

I've researched this medal only a little so far and found a couple similar medals posted on eBay - haven't found this exact style yet though.

About 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" reads: "Order of Serpents Spanish American War Veterans" and "Cuba" "Porto Rico" "USA" "Philippine Islands". The back is marked "Bastian Bros Co" "Rochester, NY".

Thanks for looking! ;D

The Military Order of the Serpent was a subgroup of the United Spanish War Veterans. You had to be a member of the U.S.W.V. in good standing before being a member of the M.O.S.. Their purpose was to promote camaraderie and fraternal fellowship amongst the members of the veterans of the Spanish American War. It was in existence from 1904 to some time in the 1950's-60's Your piece is probably from some type of reunion or gathering commemorative medal.

Thanks Ace! :icon_thumleft:

My mother is now busy locating if there was someone who lived in their house served in the Spanish American War.

This is just the sort of thing that demonstrates why I love metal detecting :D

1929 Military Order of the Serpent USWV Delegate Badge

From a local estate, this is a Spanish American War Delegate badge from the 26th Annual Convocation Military Order of the Serpent in the Province of N.Y. on July 14-17, 1929. This badge is 4" long and has Bastian Bros. Co. Rochester N.Y. stamp on back of top and bottom parts. This item is in very good condition with some wear on the ribbon, areas w the writing has worn slightly off, and a couple spots on the metal badge pieces. A great Spanish American War badge.
Please see our other auctions as we will be listing additional Spanish American War items from this estate.

Ok now we have a pic you have to find the rest of it :D. Maybe the house was built on some type of old gathering place. I would grid the small grassy place you spoke of. That way you don't miss any loot :icon_thumleft: Keep us posted ........

Very nice find. I dug a similar piece out here in Denver, posting a pic.

Thanks Mike! ;D

Very cool Carl! - thanks for posting the pic of your item.

Ok now we have a pic you have to find the rest of it

You got it Ace! I cannot believe it - I went back tonight and found it right away in the same spot :D

At first I thought it was from a different badge - reads

"Schenectady" "Meaning City Across the Plains" but I think it was just because this badge was for a member of the Schenectady delegation instead of Albany.

Anyway :icon_thumleft: I really like it!
