Picked this painting up at a local SA Thrift Store yesterday. I've been unable to trace the artist, but with the info on the back, I should be able to eventually do it. It measures 24 x 30 and is very clean and crisp. I think it was a steal for $4.99.

That's a very pretty painting HH. It looks like it was done as a gift, probably by a local artist.

I'm just surprised that Salvation Army only charged you $4.99. Down here the "art" paintings, pictures what have you are overpriced and have a standard of $24.99 and up on all of them on the 3 stores that I frequent. That's a nice looking painting, hope you can track down some more info on it.

Interesting writing as well.

A quick search tells me that Paul Hydon was the senior pastor for the church from 1960-69-

1901-04 George W. Brown 1960-69 Paul V. Hydon 2010- Mark Demers

So far that's all I got.

An obits search shows that the Pastor for whom the painting was made died in 1993 and lived in a nearby town in NY close to you (his wife died in '89). Perhaps it was part of the estate of a deceased family member who took posession of the painting when he died in '93. Still nothing on the artist, common name it seems, even with the middle initial.

Social Security Death Index-
HYDON, PAUL V Jun 03, 1907 Mar 01, 1993
Last residence: 12052 (Cropseyville, Rensselaer, NY)

Thanks for the info. I've been concentrating on tracking the artist, coming up completely blank.

Probably a member of the congregation. It's a nice looking painting but it does show the artists naivety.
