There's been quite a history of busted scoops here, and they do tend to be expensive. With a 40 year career in construction engineering I do tend to think in terms of structural integrity. I look at the pictures of the Italian scoops and see one heck of a lot of holes and not a lot of metal structure. And that was the FIRST thing I saw. Yep, you need drainage, but you also need structural integrity to last past the first season if you are a serious water hunter.

I will agree that the Italian scoops are pretty

And they are fine for hunting in beach sand, but I'd be afraid to use them in the water - especially on fresh water lakes. Something has to give, and rocks don't give much.

The scoop looks real good for soft, clean sand. In my hands and where I often metal detect (washed-out, stone covered beaches) the scoop wouldn't last a day. Even my heavy duty aluminum scoop looks like this after about 30 hrs:


Metal Detecting can be an extreme sport, if you find the right conditions...

I can assure that the SCOOPS are indestructible!!!
I am tall 196 cm and weighing more than 110 kilos!!!
I destroyed several handles but not one scoop!!!!
Small holes serve to not lose small items in gold!
In Italy we have 750 gold (18k ) and often many small earrings who are impossible to collect with large holes in the USA Scoops!
In the past I buy some USA scoop (also the famous Traveller) but I had many problem with holes...

I agree gamiller. Put your foot to the back of it a few times and see what happens. Not all sand is sugar, you have to use some effort to get a scoop full

I have the stealth 720i hybrid (w/small holes on back bottom that catch most everything) and I love it!
They will repair it no questions asked! However if you are abusive and use it like a pry bar they will not keep repairing it!
Aluminum scoops will fail much sooner than a stainless steel scoop!

I'd have to give it a spin but Nothing is Indestructible!

Ferrari factory = north Italy
This scoop = south Italy , not the same country LoL
