28-year-old William O. Shelton of Fairfield was injured over the weekend when he apparently shot himself in the groin with a .22 pistol. Shelton told police he was fishing the Little Wabash River south of Golden Gate when he drew the gun out of his waistband and accidentally shot himself. The bullet entered his lower abdomen, passed through his scrotum and lodged in his upper thigh. Shelton faces charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID Card and unlawful use of weapons. He was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital for treatment.
