Hi everyone! We are brand new to Mding and to treasurenet and we just wanted to share what we found on our first try. (In our front yard) Some nails, pop tabs, foil, a copenhagen lid, a bolt and three pennies! :D We purchased the Tesoro Vaquero and would like to hear any tips or hints from any of yall seasoned mders. Sorry our first finds weren't very cool, but as soon as we find some cool stuff, we'll post again. -Treasurecowboy & Ladybug

A big howdy...and a big welcome to ya, Cowboy & Ladybug! :)

Good luck in your future hunts! :)

Welcome!

The only advice I have for beginners is...

Don't have any preconceived expectations on what you will find. Make mental notes of how different objects sound and dig everything.

Oh yeah. Have fun!

Yeah, don't give up because once you get the hang of it you will have a ball. I've had my Ace 250 since Christmas and still getting to know it better each outing.

Welcome Aboard!!!!

Congratulations of your First Finds!!! This is the place to be for all things Metal Detecting!!

Welcome to the madness..That's a great start believe it or not you are getting to know you machine and before you know it you will have a pile of coins best of luck..HH

Welcome and Welcome you two.

We all are here to help, and we all look forward to seeing what you get! Have fun with it all!! ;D

Well, first of all you picked a mighty good machine for a first one ! Second, you are ALWAYS going to find that stuff, you just never see peoples junk, they only post the neat stuff. Third, once you get the Vaquero ground balanced, turn the threshold all the way up for extra depth. Fourth, make sure you get yourself a good set of headphones, it's hard to hear deeper targets without them.

Thanks everyone for all of the welcomes! We did purchased a set of headphones with our detector. We're going to the Witchita Mountains in Southwest Oklahoma (Home of Belle Stars infamous Iron Door)! Mabey we'll find some treasure! We'll be sure to post if we do! ??? Until then......Treasurecowboy & Ladybug

Agreed.

Welcome to Tnet from the UK. Treasure Hunting should be called Trash Digging as thats what you spend most of your time doing. However when you do get something & you will over time then it makes all the pain worth it.

Only advice would be study the manual & try & get as best depth in the conditions you are working in.

Welcome, so you have meet the world famous pull tab already.. :D
You should begin to dig everything until you know your detector.
Always have some spare batteries with you.
Do research on the area your going to hunt, talk to older people they often know a lot about the area.
read the manual a few times, not only once.
See if you find any other detectorist in your area who have more experience then you, or join a club.
Make note of sites who seem intresting.

I am sure there are more tips to come.. ;)

welcome to another world inches below us .
