Our first tentative trips out of the yard

My husband and I are newbies who up until yesterday had kept to our own yard. Yesterday we ventured to Ormond Beach but after 3 hours of md'ing only came up with 1 penny. Somehow we didn't even get trash. We must have been doing something wrong. So today we headed to a local park and did better! Had a great time learning what different targets sounded like and found a good variety of trash and clad.

So while not impressive for it's uniqueness we are proud nonetheless!

We ALL had our first hunts and start out at ground ZERO. Welcome to the sport and also the coolest sight for treasure hunters on the web. I reckon it won't be long before you get the hang of what the machine is telling you and the finds will improve in time. Just have fun along the way and enjoy getting out in nature and stretching your muscles a bit. Adios :hello:

Welcome, it took me a long time to get something good when I first started, about three days I think! That was a minie ball from Antietam Battlefield. Place we hunted was finally put into parkland, so it is now off limits, story goes back 30 years or more.

It's just a matter of time. So slow, dig the iffy signals. Took a friend to a site which I had some history on. Pointed to a ridge and told him there should be a house there. There had been a house there. Found several 18th century buttons and coins, and 5 Civil War buttons. Do the homework for your area and learn the history.

Learning where to go & what sounds to dig takes years, so if your not put off at the start then your now part of the elite hobby of Detecting. Depending what your aiming for, you may want to start researching ploughed land for things a bit older.
