Detector(s) used
xlt mxt gmz and now a gmt whites
i see guys at (my) park useing a atp and a mineland 3030 ,they are finding sliver, iam not anymore. i use a mxt with a 6X10 detach coil,am i out gunned,or just unluckly.where would a e-trac fit in with these??
thanks brad

I would think if you got a bigger coil, you'd get more depth, but you would have to stay away from trashier areas.

I agree with loco-digger.....but i think the Minelabs are hard to beat on deep silver. Look for a nice used Etrac!

I don't think the minelab will fare any better than the MXT in the trash, the Whites MXT is a faster machine. I think a larger coil and increasing your sensitivity will find you the silver you are looking for. With a large coil an MXT will have no problems going down 10" in most soils. Make sure you air test that MXT for proper gain, over time electronic component values change and need to be re-calibrated or replaced.

If you get an Etrac its all about how you set the machine up to hunt. Mine is amazing... good luck no matter what you choose...

Out gunned? Maybe, maybe not.

I wouldn't think the AT Pro would find anything the MXT couldn't. As a matter of fact, I don't really believe a CTX3030 or Etrac will find what a MXT won't.

The Minelabs have a lot going on under the hood, using filters and circuits to display a more informative snapshot of targets. The MXT may fall a little short of informative ID, but still, it's see's the target and does it's best with what it has to work with. The MXT Pro is one of Whites best ever in the sub $1000 range. But if you are only using the 9.5 Eclipse coil, I believe you could be holding this detector back from what it can do.

A huge part of detecting is LUCK!! Whoever puts their coil over the better target wins, simple as that. I doubt the ATP has any better depth than your machine, and I'd bet most of the coins found in your park are less than 8" deep making extreme depth a moot point. Put three people out hunting in a park and one will find cooler stuff than the others just because they were in the right spot at the right time regardless of what machine they were using. I think one day you'll be out there and out-find those other guys.

i think you guys saved me 1500.00 again.
thanks brad

thanks ,i have a 1893 Q and a 1943

thanks,i have a 1893 Q and a 1942 1/2 from this park from years a go,i ordered a 13 detech coil today

For finding deep silver the FBS/ FBS2 machines are hard to beat. Not saying the mxt with a 13" Ultimate won't find deepies but the Etrac/ CTX just seem to make it much easier

I wasn't sure about all the Etrac hype until I bought one about a month ago. Then I took it to places my partner and I couldn't find silver anymore. I started finding silver with the Etrac. So, now I believe. Just my 2 cent experience.

They call it dirt fishing for a very good reason....right time at the right place

The MXT with the right coil is every bit as deep as the E-trac or V3i, I use the D2 or the ultimate 13 coil and get dimes at 10"+ with no problem and a few being at a full 12" before. The key is going slow if there's trash which is hard for me to do as I'm always wanting to hurry and find the next target, you have to use a really good set of headphones to hear those deep whisper targets which is usually the old good deep stuff. I try and run at +2 gain for more depth, just make sure there's not to much background noise so you will hear the deep whisper targets and in high EMI areas you might need to back it down some so there's not to much chatter to hear those whispers. I never feel outgunned with my MXT, maybe a little sorry for the others guys. HH

You can't compare that 6X10 coil to a detector with a bigger coil as the smaller coils won't get targets as deep but they do separate better, of course better separation isn't going to do any good if the silver left there is all 10"+. HH

The FBS machines are definitely hot on the higher conductors.

I use ctx 3030 and mxsport as well as Garrett gti 2000 and hunt with a buddy that use At pro and At gold. I believe that it has a lot to do with getting your coil over the target, if you don't go over silver or rings with your coil you won't find them, if you do you will. Proper coil for conditions help.

Your not going to get the depth from the 6X10 DD coil that you would from a larger coil, get a better coil for depth and try to run at +2 gain when you can. HH

It is the information that a minelab gives you that I think is the biggest reason people dig more silver with it. Other detectors go beep over those same silver targets, but the sound and vdi may be questionable, whereas a minelab will be a little more accurate in tone and target id. At least that is my experience. Dig it all guys can dig silver with any machine. I am not a dig it all guy. The etrac has helped me build a silver coin collection, other detectors found just a handful that I owned.

Rule #1: Turn on the machine
Rule #2: Put the coil over the target
Rule #3: Just dig it.

I have had very expensive machines go in my "spot". They found nothing. I went back over the area later and found a lot with a $300 machine.

This weekend I took my expensive machine out and found a few items, my friend with a junk machine found a lot more. I just didn't have the machine over the goodie.
