out gunned???

interesting post need to get my hand on a mxt all pro and put it through some test on deep silver coins in my test garden. The ctx blasts 12 inch half dollars and 12 inch silver quarters in my ground little weaker on the quarter though. I was reading above about the coil size hitting deeper targets and I was taught that from the begining too. I guess its true on most detectors BUT I have 9inch coil on my Deus that will hit a 14 inch silver quarter, a 15 inch silver half ,and will tag a 9 1/2 inch merc with ease know I could get a little more on it maybe 10 or 11. Not putting the deus in the ring for coin shooting but why will its nine inch coil perform so well ? the windings ? It should not perform like that according to common beliefs correct? You asked the question were you outgunned I dont know the answer as I dont know the whites machine but the ctx I had was a performer and I bet the etrac would be along the same lines. Luck runs out but skill and good tools to do the job are hard to beat imo.

Its a 4 way split.....

1/4 machine
1/4 location
1/4 man using machines experience
1/4 willingness to dig an iffy target

Those hunters finding deep silver when others don't probably know their machine's language fluently. Success comes from knowing what you are doing, knowing how to set up your machine to get the most depth it can give, knowing what you are hearing - or not hearing in your headphones, and practicing the basics over and over again. I know two hunters personally that have the best machines money can buy, but they don't swing low and slow, they don't overlap their swings, and they always complain about not finding as much as they think they should. I know another fella that keeps changing machines every six-months, because the detectors "aren't deep enough," or suffer from other problems. Of course the real "problem," is his inability to buckle down, and take the time to really LEARN how to use the machine.

Many fellas use DD coils when a concentric coil would be deeper in the soils they're hunting, or they use too much gain with their big DD coil and lose the depth the larger coil should give. Bottom line; Knowledge combined with a mastery of Basic skills will always win over high dollar machines and luck. :skullflag:

The mxt will go deep and find silver, i have no doubt. the 950 coil will do the trick, the 6x10 is a good coil but round coils go deeper. the mxt pro has the same guts as my e-series great machine for gold too .first ya gotta walk over it to find it

(My opinion only) If you've used your machine for less than a year you don't know your machine or its capabilities at all. I'm amazed how many guys buy a machine, and 3 months later they're waiting on the new machine when they have almost 0 time on the one they have. I knew a gentleman that swung a sovereign since they first came out until he passed a couple years ago. Stock coil & the hockey puck, and no meter. "Don't need no meter son, only your ears and what's between them!" He knew his machine & what it was telling him! I'd feel very comfortable placing a large bet he could out hunt most all of us if he were still alive. I think a lot of people that have not used old TRS or BFOs miss a lot because they just lazy out or just don't want to spend the time on the digger. The big thing most don't have is the patience! We all do it! Want to find as much as we can in the least amount of time, but rush over some real good stuff.

One thing I know for sure; I have dug more silver since I bought an etrac. But you guys are right, you have to learn any machine you use. And i have did that with all my machines, and i have found more silver with the minelab. Not knocking any brands, there are fine machines from almost every manufacturer. Just stating my personal experience.

That 6X10DD is really just a 6" coil though, you can't compare it to the 950 on an equal basis, where there's trash the DD coils will get deeper targets on a regular basis and I for one don't find many coins in very clean places. HH
