Hi,

I will be there next week - as far as I know for K.D.H. and north is open to beach detecting - since I have never detected a salt beach before, I was wondering how the wet sand is there and how it effects the single frequency machines. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

I love the "Outer Banks", but haven't vacationed there since I began detecting.
Repost in the States forum for rules n regs, but you should be fine on any beach, unless "private".
Be sure to climb the Hatteras lighthouse.
What machine will you be using?

Peace ✌

I'll be using the XP Deus in the wet and dry sand, not underwater. My biggest question is how the machine will handle the sand and salt. Thanks CK

Hope you have a great time! You should be Okay if your'e not trying to hunt in a state park or a national seashore. You should do fine in the dry sand but the really wet stuff may give you a bit of a problem. Hopefully someone will chime in that's hunted the beach with a Deus and give you some pointers. Great machine.
Checkout the Deus forum for appropriate settings.

Good luck! Post your finds! And above all, ENJOY YOUR VACATION! :icon_thumright: :occasion14:

I just spent a week in Duck NC just north of Kill Devils Hills. I was using a Silver uMax. When in the wet sand I had the sesetivity turned down about half way and only dug targets that repeated when passes were made at right angles. Be patient! You are going to find A LOT of bottle caps and Pringle's lids. I didn't find too much "good stuff" up in Duck and time didn't allow going down to the more crowded beachs like Nags Head. Have fun and good luck!
