Hello, can anyone help me with this buckle. It is 40 mm wide by 45mm high (sorry for metric). I think it is brass.
What I can work out it says on the front "Registered January 18th (?) 1868 no 4920 and on the back P.Dadley (?)Patent ??????buckle. It was found in an old gold mining area near Walhalla Victoria Australia. Cheers for any help.

I would say it is off a suspender.

Just as duggap said, it's a suspender buckle. Probably American made. Good find as they are getting very collectable now.

Very nice find :icon_thumright:

I think it is a British Patent - In 1868 Registered No. 4920 on January 10th is for The Livingstone Brace Buckle by William Blenkiron & Son, London.

I stand corrected as I thought that was made in America. Bramblefind is right! Excellent research on his part.
