Decided to try the difficult overgrown field again. Spent 2 hours stork dodging & when we had finished our grid the best find was a Roman Bronze. On the way back to the car Dad had a nice Jetton (best this year) & I had a nice buckle. So a good finish & a worthwhile hunt. ;D

Roman Bronze Sesterius - cica 1st-2nd century AD
1860 Halfpenny
Clock hand
Cica 1800 pewter Navy Button
Cica 1800 Livery Button
14th Century Buckle, pin & plate 8)
English or French (not sure) 16-17th century Jetton - New type for us & best this year. Nice ship on one side. :)

Yes with hydrochloric acid, thats why there is no detail left & not because of the 200 years of use. Its a scrappy so not one to worry about.

Mr. dugfinds, how many Romans is that for you this year, my bloody metal detecting friend? :D

Still some great finds from a tough area to detect! I would just start knocking on farmers doors and asking for permission. I seem to have the touch when it comes to getting permission as I only have two "NOs" under my belt. I received permission to detect a large field near a medieval castle by accident today. Was detecting near an old mill and a guy stopped to ask me what I was doing, after some chit chat, he just offered me his land to detect directly across from the castle cemetery. I dug an 1875 coin in front of the guy. Wish I had more time as I am suffering the opposite of you with to much land and not enough time. Hope you get some land soon as I always enjoy your posts. HH, Mike

Glad you got out Crusader, well if you can't find any where else to hunt you can always go have a couple of pints. ;) I hunted in Fairford when I was there for a two week school and did not have much time to hunt. My oldest coin was a 1914 onepenny . I also found a bronse leaf that I hope is roman but that was about it. I still was thrilled to hunt in the UK even if the finds wernt many! :)
