Overkill on the Bolts Doohickey Plate

Found this mystery doodad near an 1870's era stamp mill. This little baby is made of iron. It is about 4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide. It appears to have a bunch of bolts/screws on one side that have hooks on the other side. I have never seen so many bolts/screws on such a small object. Thanks for any help in identifying.

Probably rotted away long ago ! The more I look at the shape of your item I'm positive of that Id . They still use them on rubber conveyors , your stamp mill would have run off hydro or steam this belt would have connected the engine to the flywheel of the hammers , !

That is a very old belt connector, may be the alligator type. The newer type is called a lacer and can be removed. I still use them. Tony
