The ground is still too messy to hunt so I went out to test a coil. I just went as far as my front yard. When I tried to ground balance I couldn't get it to settle down. Finally, when I moved the coil around a bit, I found that the ground I was trying to tune in, was a rather large piece of iron. LOL

Anyway, here it is cleaned up. I figure it's just an ox shoe but I've never found any "shoes" with a complete nail. At least, that's what I think I got.

What do you think?

Looks like an ox shoe to me

Nice coil testing find! The one spot you figure is clear so you can ground balance contains the biggest piece of iron, irony at work! Lol!

I'm going with a broken horseshoe.

Ox shoe.... And I just learned this about a week ago when someone else posted the same question. I found a bunch of them on an old logging road behind my house high up on this ridge I live on. I always thought I was finding "broken" horseshoes.... Brad

I can see that, I've found a few of these also. So, I was pretty sure it was an ox shoe. But, I'd never found one with a whole nail remaining. That through me a bit. It also fits the hand like some sort of handle.

Anyway, when I first started finding these, I was a bit surprised. I never thought of horseshoes as "breaking". :)

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the wonderful information! But, I wonder, did you see what's by the post in this pic!?!?!?

Mr. WHADIFIND.... I always thought the same thing (horseshoes as "breaking"). I found a lot of "broken" horseshoes. Couldn't figure it out till someone else pointed it out here on TN. I did feel a little better. Thought I getting a hell of a collection of "broken horseshoes". Later.... Brad

Barump bump!

Boy! I just don't get NO respect! ;)

Tough room!

LOL

I sold mine for 35 bucks in an antique store in town. The shoe was from the early 1700s.

If I would have looked more closely at the last photo, I would have known it was a ox shoe. I have found too many over the years, but good lord, none from the early 1700's. No one was living here at the time.

Well! Finally! I figured no one would notice! I've had a forensic computer expert working on this for all this time. (my grandson ;) )

He has isolated the information thru some magical means that only the young understand. :dontknow:

Here's his result:

Now, if I just knew where that picture was taken! ;)

Well tell your "forensic computer expert" to run a GPS on the photo... and then send me a PM. For god's sake don't post it publicly!!!!!!! This is only between you and ME and we'll pay off the expert later... Brad

I think we're too late. Mr. Surf has already taken down his pic and put up another that doesn't show them there anymore. He must've seen them when I pointed them out. Ran right out and got 'em and then took another pic. Probably why he hasn't said anything yet. :dontknow:

Sorry. ;)
