Ox knob?

Got out for 2 hours yesterday to a very muddy cornfield just before the really heavy rain hit. My boots each had about 3 pounds of mud stuck to them which didn't help my bum knee any. I found what I think is an ox knob, threaded on the inside with two small holes near the base, I assume to anchor the knob to the horn. It's considerably smaller than the others I've seen posted, this one is 3 inches long. Also spotted a heartbreaker of a point. Thanks for looking.

More like a hames , or collar topper.
Ox knob might be threaded to secure to horn. And are often more squat in length. All they need to do is blunt the sharp point of a horn. Trapping water would not be good.

Your piece should have a small hole to allow pinning it to a wood haft or similar.
A horn being hollow , does not make for a secure mount if pinned. At least on a bull or steer ect.....

Thanks, guys. Just as aside, I always wondered why during basic training, the DIs would refer to us as "knobs" (along with many other terms of endearment which I didn't understand but won't repeat here).
I believe you are absolutely correct - it is a hames. Threaded inside with two small holes near the base. The other "knobs" I have seen posted or have been shown appear to have been misidentified. Still a first for me.
