✅ SOLVED Ox or horse tack?

I was on a farm that's been occupied since the 1890s and found these near the former front door about 8ft from each other. The farm used oxen back in the day. Any ideas what it is? Was it for horses or oxen? The two parts look like they may have mated together.

Yup .The two pieces go together to form a single snaffle type bit.

Definitely parts of a horse-harness snaffle bit. Used by nearly everybody who owned a horse, both military and civilian, thus unfortunately nearly impossible to narrowly time-date. See photos below. One shows a civil war era snaffle bit marked Allegheny Arsenal, and the other shows a modern-made one, for sale on Ebay.
