I agree with a Griffin motif. My first impression is that they likely date somewhere around 1895-1900-ish

Those cents are beauties Jeff, congratulations. Not sure but I think the creature is a Wyvern, which do not have hind legs. Can't quite tell from the photo. Cool find!
