Panning in Illinois

Hi everyone im new to this and I live in Illinois near Chicago. I was wondering if anyone knows any good places near Chicago or Indiana (close to Chicago) that I can go panning. Im just learning and was hoping to get some practice. Thanks.

hi mu50stang, i think there may be flour gold in the rock river, i have only tried once there when i was showing somewone how to pan. gold in indy too in some creeks. pm me if you want more info.

Has anyone ever scanned the lake beaches at differant times of day. As big as that old lake is, surely there are some black sands washing up with the blond. If so, skim some up and pan it out, never know.
