What is the huge coin? It looks really thick!

Sestertius of ? . Yes, these are the largest type bronzes produced. Nice to get a site where they haven't already been picked off. This nearly blew my ears off, I thought it was a massive piece of lead.

only come out rusty in a small area of the site, some seem burnt, so maybe fire with iron.

I just remembered something. I dug a very deep target, which turned out to be a huge piece of iron slag. Maybe from Roman metal working (as its only Roman we find in this field), so I guess over time, that many small pieces of iron could be present in the soil (ie tiny flakes).

The patch where the brown romans come from hasn't been damp at some time as it. Sometimes damp soil can have that effect. Nice finds Cru :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:
