Please forgive me, but I am having a CRS senior moment where I "Can't Remember Sh--!" There is a particular name for the style hook you have, but I can't remember what it is. It goes either on an old express saddle or team pad (horse harness related), similar to the one shown in the center of the photo below. I wish I could be more specific, but my memory fails me at the moment.

I don't think it's an ice box latch.

Here is a brass ice box latch and hinge...

It is called a "safety check hook" :hello:

Very cool. Thanks everyone. I just assumed it was some part of an ice box because I found it where an ice box once sat in the smoke house. There was harness stuff there too so that makes total sense.
