Looks like a metal bucket's bale. (One of a matching pair on the bucket.) The hole in the "tongue" was for one end of the handle. The rivets attached it to the bucket's rim. See the photo below.

I found this a few months ago at a farm that dates back to the early 1860’s. Any ideas on what it could be? It has a high quality feel to it and is heavy, possibly made of copper or brass.

Yes a very slight curve. The tooth pick is below the rivets.
Could be a bail holder, as suggested by TheCannonBallGuy. Interesting find, either way, part of someone's everyday life, now long gone.
