I suspect the large ring is from horse reins. Not sure about the small point but it looks old :dontknow:

Any information would be great!

The ring looks a bit small for horse equipment. Maybe a pull ring from a window shade? I did a search and found this:

:icon_scratch: It sure looks like what you have... :dontknow:

The ring was hung on a wall so you could tie your horse rope to itView attachment 1590866

too small for that look at the dime in the photo, might be horse related, might not. If it is it's a lead ring(under the chin) or the ring on the side of the horses head for part of that harness.

This is what the 'bigger' 4" ring looks like.

It looks like that but its heavier duty than those and has no hole for the string or chain to attach.

Over in "Today's Finds", Casper suggested it could be a brass ring from a carousel. So far my research supports this.

The carousel rings came out of a dispenser like the one below -

So, they must have been a standard size. So far I have found two sources online that confirm carousel rings were 1.5 inches in diameter! Same size as my ring.

Interesting, I never knew there was such a thing as a carousel ring

A ring is a ring is a ring .. the applications and uses were/are so great, It is impossible to identify ..or even speculate.. how your ring was used.

Interesting idea Joe-Dirt but whatever that carbine is made of (steel?) it looks like it would rust.

Look at the original post, I don’t think he dug that one did he? But, yes, my carbine ring would rust

Creskol is exactly right. We can speculate all we want to, but other than being a generic ring, it is unidentifiable.

That is true, I don't think I will ever be able to say for sure. However, it matches the material and diameter. If it also matches the gauge, thats 3 points of relation. If it matches all the physical properties of a suspected purpose, thats a decent match (but not conclusive). If the exact same ring was produced for other purposes, some of those purposes should be able to be identified as employing the same 3 properties.

Could it have had a completely obscure function? Absolutely. More obscure than a carousel ring? Yes, I suppose thats a very real possibility.
