I've hunted a few times at a nearby cow pasture without much luck. After studying the old plats and historic maps/Google overlays it looks like the house sat further south than the area I had been hunting, where a later house must have been. This is my closest field site, within walking distance, and it bugged me not to have pulled a keeper from it. Headed over last evening (over the creek, through the woods, under the electric fence) for a short 1.5 hour hunt until dusk. Dug a small jackknife that was pretty deep. Finally got a good signal and pulled out a dime sized coin. Didn't want to rub it dirty, so put it away for later. Cleaning it up at home I was elated to see the 1876 date. Huzzah!
The research does pay off.
