"Pat Applied For" Mystery Item?

Brass about an inch long. Found on slope near cellar hole. Any ideas on what this is or a age range? Thx!

Possible Victorian era broach.

It looks like a Victorian brooch that has lost its stone. I see one hole and one area where the pin would have been connected. They are located over and under the 'pp' in 'applied.' If you go back to the same spot, look in the hole to see if you can find the stone.

I thought this looked like it could have held jugate photos i.e. as a 19th century political piece. I did some searching earlier and didn't find anything. Just tried again and found this in google images. The available link seems to be a Spanish ebay mobile listing for "Super Rare 1868 Old Political Jugate Pin for the Ulysses S Grant / Colfax"
