"Pat'd Auc 1 99" (Patented August 1st 1899) Clasp + Both hunts in the past two days.
Patent Found! Patent US630034 - Clasp. - Google Patents
2 Hours: First Hunt of the Year, at same location as the turn of the century, enameled watch fob: Pocket Knife, (1860's-1900) Two Ring Rimfire Bullet (Same type of bullet in the Civil War gun my Grandpa found) , Percussion cap, Two Shotgun Shells (1912-1916, 1920-1935) Bola Tie, 50 pull tabs, Can-Slaw (Shredded Cans), Cans, Foil, Bottle Caps Clad Pocket Spill
1-1.5 hours: Second Hunt of the Year:
I went for a very short hour long metal detecting trip, in the stonewall lined woods around a 1990's school, at the same place where I found a 1.5'' colonial tombac dandy button. I tried in that woods, and found nothing but trash, and an antique cooking pot lid (which is not with me right now). I then tried in the woods on the other side of the school, I got a quarter mile in at most. I found 4 shotgun shells, from (1890-1910 ,1912-1916, 1920-1930), but less trash, except one pencil eraser, and some beer cans on the stonewalls. I got a signal at 7''-8'' deep, and pulled out a corroded item covered in dirt, it looked like a clasp though. I looked for some labels when I got home, but there was too much corrosion. I put the buckle in Navel Jelly for ten minutes and saw shiny nickel plating, with a few patches of corroded brass. Overall, it looked near to brand new. I was able to read "Pat'd Auc 1 (An early patent term for august)99 and also "CMC". All of that probably means, "Patented August 1st 1899." I am wondering why the shotgun casings from the same time, that were three feet away from the clasp were only 3 inches deep, whereas the clasp was, 7''-8'' deep.
P.S. Sorry for no before pictures.
