Hey group,

I picked this ashtray up at a GW this morning and was wondering if any of you have come across one of these or something similar.
This is 10" in diameter, molded and has an island in the center. George Washington, an obelisk, the Great Seal and the Liberty Bell are featured on the island. There are dates on George and the Seal of 1887. I think this commemorates the centennial of the Constitution, any chance this dates to that period?
Thanks for any replies, I had to buy something to sell today and this was the only eye catcher.

I don't think you overpaid. Did you look at that guy's shipping amount? You will at least break even IMO.

Blue should be more desirable than the green that sold. The blue is pretty.

The blue color is probably more desirable so you may do better

Nice buy. Thanks for sharing...

The problem with Fostoria coin glass is that not all of it was actually made by Fostoria. This particular coin pattern was made by Fostoria from 1958 until the early 80's. Lancaster Colony purchased Fostoria in the early 80's and continued to produce the same pattern, only with slight differences. The newer blue is lighter in color and the coins were not frosted. Although many got "frosted" after the fact by others, because at the time, this was a popular pattern. They sandblasted and acid etched the coins and the results are noticeably different in the details. The fact that this pattern was still being made for years after Fostoria "died" has hurt the market for the coin glass that Fostoria actually did make.
