If a Peralta massacre did really occur, why no one has found the bones? Do Apache bury the people they kill? Also, the story tells that they cut the gold bags off from the burros. I have read stories of people that find piles of gold in the soups like the 2 brothers that go crazy. Maybe more people have find them and not tell about it? Is possible.

You need to read the account of Sgt. William Edwards of the U.S. Cavalry coming across bleached bones while on patrol. If you don't have it, get Glover's book. It's an absolute must-have for anyone interested in the LDM.

Actually there were 2 of them. First was the father and 2 sons (young boys) as the father didn't pay off the Apache Tribe as he was doing a final last trip before the US bought the land from Mexico due to the size of his party and thinking he would not come back. The 2 sons climbed the back of the massacure grounds canyon and went home with a family retainer. Years later the 2 sons came back and mined again. They didn't know about paying off the Apaches so when they came back out they were driven back into the box canyon. In the 1880's there were still over 200 mule skeletons there. In 1948 a guy went up there and used a WWII mine detector and found 2 trenchs, one 50 feet the other 70 feet long. Both with 8 inch bags the whole way. First the Gov hit him with Tresure trove tax, 50%. Then Income Tax, at that time it went up to 98%. Then the State of Arizona hit him for State Tax. That was after he had the Arizona Republic publish his story. I read it back in 1963 as filler to the story about the 2 guys from Hawaii where one killed the other for a 3 LB nugget of fools gold. i was living in Florence, Arizona and my next door neighbor was the county sheriff, Coy DeArmond.

Bones in a dry desert don't dissappear for many hundred years so unless some people move them they are still there. Do you know where were the bones found?

I try to locate the 1963 story you talk about but did not find.

It really was and still is called the massacure grounds. From the Western side not the Peralta Side, it is on the outside edge of the Supes.

Yeah, the Arizona Republic wants money to search it. In 1963 it was a filler about 4 pages back after the headline story about bring the guy from Hawaii that killed his boyhood best friend in the Supes when they were looking for the Lost Dutchman mine over a 3 LB nugget of Iron Pyrate, Fool's Gold. Shot him and then buried him in a shallow grave. He had gone back to Hawaii and told the guys parents that he had stayed there. After had 2 weeks went by they called the Maricopa County police to have them check on him. They were told that it was Pinal County that they had to contact. They did and the County Police went looking for him. They found the camp site the first day and the grave the 3rd day. Then they went to Hawaii to interview the other guy. The body had a bullet hole in his forehead with powder burns around it.
The guy finally admitted it and showed them the "Nugget" that he shot him over. That was the front page news on their return to Arizona in the Arizona republic. Try looking for that article then go back 4 pages. My next door neighbor at that time was Coy DeArmed the sheriff of Pinal Country. I lived in Florence, Arizona back then.
