Found a nice relic, today. I've been rightly advised that I ID'd it incorrectly as an early matchlock, and is in fact a Percussion Cap Rifle barrel. It is 21" long.
That's not a match lock barrel. It is a percussion cap barrel with the nipple that you put the cap on missing. Not nearly as old as you have stated. Percussion caps invented in the 1830's and came into common use in the 1850's or so.
Still a nice find. It also looks to be a shotgun not a rifle. The barrel at the muzzle end is not heavy enough for a rifle.
Kind of hard to see in the photos but I see threads in the hole that the nipple would screw into. That is a dead give away. Look at that hole with a good light and see if it isn't clearer to you as being threaded.
Looks like it has seen some heat or got stepped on. More likely heat though , with the gradual bend . I saw examples of things like that at the Springfield Armory Museum just a few weeks ago.
Weapons that were exposed to extreme conditions.
