Nice!!! Congrats!!!

to me it more resembles part of a colonial era cufflink, but the size looks a little big for that. hopefully someone more educated on buttons will chime in

Nice save. Congrats

I see what you mean with a snake and eggs and being pewter. My first thought would be that it's super rare and valuable if it's associated with the revolution but I don't know if that's one of those buttons. I'd keep researching it as I'm sure someone out there knows what it is. How old was the building you found it in?

The building is early 1800s but its right where the first settlement was in 1710

I can't find anything similar to your button in any of my reference books. I just got the "Insignia of Independence. Military Buttons, Acoutrement Plates & Gorgets of the American Revolution" by Don Troiani and James L. Kochan that is the most recent work available and covers the American, British, French and German military. There is not a button in it anywhere near the design on yours. Add to that fact there is not even a button shaped like yours. I am by no means knowledgeable on revolutionary era buttons but I am leaning toward your button being a fancy civilian one.
Hopefully someone else more learned on the subject will share their expertise.

Definitely not a snake and eggs button. Looks like a cufflink to me although most 18th century cufflinks are brass or silver.

Nice job getting permission!

Around here it's always, "No!"

It's not a military button. It's a mid 18th century civilian style. Depending on size, possibly a cufflink.

I agree with most here its a late 18th C Linked-Button or Cuff-link

Thanks for the input guys. I figured it wasnt military but i.can hope right? Ha I still really like this button. It seems to big to be a cuff though

Look up linked-buttons, they were worn at the neck.

Congrats on the uniquely rare button find. I like your jumping in there and getting a permission to dig that one. Nice going.

Right place, right time. Congratulations on the finds. :icon_thumright:
