It could be part of many things. Light fixture, flower urn, tussie mussie...

I would guess closer to Victorian era than colonial.

I have also found one of these in my yard, but do not know what it could be.

I have found colonial relics in my yard before, so your item could be quite old. My house also used to be the parsonage.
