pewter colonial 'USA' button? stone made tiles.

After the deep venture into my grandparents woods, in the thickest part of the woods, weve owned for the longest time. I brought along some heavy machinery to help clear the dead trees in the way. After made it through where I cleared I swung and dug alittle until the mosquitos found me. One nice day in the bluegrass and there everywhere come on :p. It seems to be made of pewter and I can make out not muh on it but maybe an A at the end, could always be intials? Help? And then I found the rest of the floor in the ground with stone made tiles

I Can Clearly See The USA . Its A continental Army Button. And A Very very Nice Find Indeed. Id recommend sealing it fast so it doesnt fall apart. Im sure another member will chime in soon with advice on how to.

After gently removing any soil with a very soft toothbrush and water, I would soak it in a mix of Elmers white glue and water for a few days then let it air dry on wax paper. When it is sealed it will also help bring out more details.

Some prefer a 50/50 mix but I prefer a 70% glue/30% distilled water.

I agree with Continental Army USA button, Rev War. I also agree with letting some diluted Elmers glue go on it to keep it from flaking. Also rotate 90 degree to the right for proper orientation.

Got it soaking will post later.

Getting there.

Great find man! You got most of it there. Looks like you might have done a little toothpick work on the crud covering the letters before you applied the Elmers. But then it's hard to tell without having the button in hand. Great save!

Great find! Nice work with the restoration/preservation. I can't wait to find one myself :)

if possible, could you rotate the picture and repost?

This is very well may be a Banner find!

That's a nice find. One of the few things I have found....and Jason (Oxbowbarefoot), hasn't. But I'm sure he will! Congrats........Hogge

Very nice RW button, and in decent shape all things considered. Be sure to post us some more pics when the glue has fully dried.

Awesome find! As someone else said, I think you may could've got some more if the crud off before sealing it. A buddy of mine found one recently but he just stabilized the edges from flaking with super glue. He did this under a microscope and filled in the cracks. He used the end of a pin & went slow. I added a pic below if the finished button. Killer find, I hope to add one to my collection very soon!

That button looks as though it could clean up and be in terrific condition. That's a hell of a find. Congrats

very nice find

All three letters got saved I left most the dirt on the front though, sealed and is being kept air locked. And I wish I knew how to rotate from phone.

That is an awesome button - one that many of us dream of finding! Congrats!

Nice button find:headbang:

I have found many smoked pewter buttons and always imagine one of them was a USA button:laughing7:
