the plaque is stamped 925 on the front and it measures 12" x 10". It has a certificate
of authenticate on the back. It says on the back:

Precise copy of old byzantine Icon, On canvas with authentic agiography colors, Inalterable in time. Made of pure silver 925,worked by traditional artisants. Free for exportation

I am not sure how much it weighs.. It looks too nice of a piece to scrap it though. But the silver is like 1/4" to an inch

I would go get an appraisal if possible, if it is actually silver you made out like a bandit

Sweet !

Is that St. Nicholaus aka Santa Claus ? Sure was for you ! :icon_sunny:

the silver value by melt weight alone is way more than $2 --but thats a fine religious icon "copy" type item (* byzantine = greek type orthodox catholic from a long long time ago -- going back to like 400 AD in constantinople -- modern day turkey ) --"saint" icons are "highly reveared" holy art type items and the originals are often near priceless works of art.

If you want a free appraisal take it to a pawn shop and tell them you want to sell it. They will ask what you want for it but don't quote them a price just say you don't know and see what they offer for it. Multiply their offer x4 and thats what your market value will be. Good luck,

HH Charlie

Congrats!!!!! Right place at the right time.

It is St. nicholas lol . :sign13: its an early christmas for me I guess lol . I seen a couple people pick this up and I cant believe noone bid on this. I stood in front of the box lot so noone else looked in the box for like 15 minutes. My heart was beating out of my chest cause I saw the 925 stamp on the front and it had that non reflective silvery look to it but I am still gonna have it looked at just to be sure it is real. I did some searching and found one just like it on ebay, But his plaque had 14k gold plating on some of it. He is asking $600 or best offer. Could the gold have been stripped off by someone perhaps?

his face is paint

I can't comment on the artistic value but I'd be willing to bet the silver is not solid. It's more than likely a thin layer similar to a weighted candlestick. Still a great score for $2.

I sold the plaque on ebay for $150. That wasnt a bad profit eh.

glad you didnt scrap it :icon_thumleft:

I thought it was too nice of a piece to scrap.

That was an awesome proffit! It is a nice piece of art. Congrats!
