Gone thru 1 box during lunch, 3 40%, but one was the elusive 76 bicentennial. Been a couple of years since I have found one of them. The next box looks to be more promising as I saw a 90% kennedy and 40% peeking out of one of the ends of the rolls.

Box 2 proved to be much much better. That box netted me 13 90% (12 Kennedys & 1 Franklin), 33 40% and 1 1973S circulated proof. I can definitely live with totals like that. Getting ready to take a long trip here in a couple of weeks and have timed it to where I hit a bunch of small towns when the banks are open. Gonna take lots of green and hopefully exchange it for lots of silver! HCRH all.

Good deal. Any silver is better than none. I wish you the best of luck on that second box.

The one I found was silver.

Good going Wayne! Was it a silver proof or business strike?

Re: Picked up two new boxes today (11/20) -

Did they strike any of the 40% as a buisseness strike? I thought only the proofs were struck in silver.

They did it both ways in 1976 but made fewer proofs.

1976-S

7 million PROOFs
4 million SILVER PROOFs
11 million SILVER BUSINESS STRIKEs

How do you identify the 1976-S as silver?

Thanks!

76 Silver wow way to go, I have yet to locate one. Keep up the great CRH finds.
Best Regards, Ray

Immy - it was business strike. I have found a total of 8 now, 1 is proof and the rest business strike.

JT2 - the silver bicentennials look basically like the 65 - 70 in appearance.

I have gotten into the habit of putting all of my 74D, 73D and 77D aside to check for the double dies later. I have found over 120 of the 74D, but have yet to find a 73D or 77D. Has anyone found one of these elusive ones yet?

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the info!

Would you mind taking a moment to edumacate me about these other coins you are looking for, like the 74D, 73D and 77D? Are they marked in any special way, and what makes them special? Also, do you know any web sites that I can read up on what to look for out there?

Thanks much!

JT

The 73D, 74D and 77D had the distinction of having double die strikes. The most common is the 74D, several folks here have found one. Look here in the CRH area under the topic 'Haven't found much silver lately so I've really been looking at the 74D close'. Soldierman has a great example of what to look for. The 73D and 77D are very similar to this, but much harder to find. Hope this helps.

I just stopped at another bank while I was at lunch and they only had $11 in loose, but I got 3 40%. I knew before seeing them there would be silver as when they put them on the counter I hear that sweet silver sound. I would love to get that ratio in my boxes! I am trying to work my way back to 1000 40% halves after selling all of them earlier this year or late last year, I forget which. I am up to 575 now, over half way. Even when I hit that magical number I will keep them this time and continue accumulating. If silver gets up over $20 I may have to rethink not selling. HCRH all.

don't forget the 71-D double die. I posted a photo of the one I found recently.

What thread was that in?
