I found this today while walking a plowed field in Orangeburg, SC looking for Native American artifacts. It is a piece of a broken ceramic plate (china?) & it has a very interesting design printed with dark purple ink.

Any ideas about the age of this? Could it possibly be Colonial?

Hello Mega,

Welcome to the TNet, and thanks for bringing the purple transferware shard. Transferware began 1756. It has a certain Greek Revival look to it, but difficult to date with such a small window. "Go back, get more," sez I.

Thanks-that's very useful information. Unfortunately I looked all around the spot where I found this piece & could not find any more; I guess this was the only piece that the plow pushed up.

Anybody else have an idea (roughly) of the age of the plate that it came from?
