I don't think some of these things can really be dated. It looks like a rusty old pipe, but they still make iron pipes today, so it could be very recent, just corroded quickly.

Having a cap on it, it may have been a filler tube for tractor, mower, engine etc?

Clean all the crud off of the cap and see what the cast markings say.
At the least it may give you a clue as to where it was made.
Just realize- It may be too corroded to find anything.

Makes me think of the pipes coming out of my walls that used to feed what I assume were gas heaters.

If it has a cap it looks like a drip leg from a propane appliance. I like these relics too...I put them on the Friendly and get laughed off the internet thinking I'm foolish. What's foolish is posting a Pic of a penny w the date on it !! Who cares !!!
