I got this as a gift a few days ago I can't say I've seen anything like this before any ideas on what it is?

Look up Petoskey stone. Hexagonaria. It's a type of coral and looks very similar to your find. Gary

It looks similar to my piece but Petoskey stone has very uneven hexagon shapes and a dark centers while mine is a lot more uniform with small lines inside each one like an agate. Still interesting though I've never heard of Petoskey stone! :icon_thumleft:

Can you figure out a hardness and streak? It does look like a fossil however as you said its pretty uniform.
