I'm still pretty new with it. :) I love the discriminating mode and the depth but I'm having trouble pinpointing with it. It seems that when I get the hot spot of the coil over the target it nulls out. And if I move the coil slightly, I get a blaring agonizing beep that is no where close to the target. Any ideas? Its way different then my old Inca and my Ace250. Maybe I just need more experience. I seem to pinpoint better in the discriminate mode then the all metal pinpoint.

The reason you seem to be pinpointing easier in Disc. mode is the shorter response time. In all metal, you still have to keep the coil moving slightly, but with a little practice on a coin on the ground, you'll learn faster. Have you tried the edge of the coil as you approach the coin? Some like this way better.

I run a DeLeon which doesn't have a pinpoint button and a Cibola which does. I tend to either X the target or circle it a bit as it needs some motion to sense the target. Both seem to have the pinpoint spot about here.

You might also take a coin and tape it to some cardboard. Put it upside down on a spot of your lawn where there is no metal under it. Try to locate the coin and use either an icepick or screwdriver to punch a hole in the cardboard, see how close you come. Just a thought.

I have never figured it out on my Cibola either. Good thing it is so accurate with x-ing the target. It would seem that the threshold would get louder at the target, but mine seems to fade out and get louder again. I gave up on it after awhile. So I just x and go merrily along!!!!

I haven't tried the edge of the coil yet, but I'll try anything to make it easier. I like the idea of taping a coin on card board. I'll have to give that a try. My threshold fades out too. And then gives the strangled duck noise as some one else put it. It drives me nuts.

Thanks for all the help.

I haven't ran into any problems pinpointing with my Cibola. It pinpoints nicely. Usually I get the high pitched strangled duck sound when I have pinpointed a target that is relatively close to the coil. The further away(deeper) the target the duck seems to sober up ;D
I don't have the Vaquero, but from what I have heard from some users is that when you're coil goes silent you have the target dead center. As stated above the cardboard trick will save you much frustration in the field. Good luck to you, Daniel
