hi, recently found my first stone pipe. Was found while agate hunting in a washout . My heart skipped beat when I saw it. This coming Thursday the University of Minnesota will have a look at it, The archiology department is interested in this piece, because of location, and other documented artifacts from this general area found by others . This was found north of Dassel,Minnesota thought I would share my first nice artifact with you all. Thanks,Jim

it is most likely sandstone or possibly siltstone pipe. Other artifacts found not be me, within this general area are dated from archiac-woodland. the nearest burial mound is located in Paynesville,Mn about 25 miles as the crow flys. At one time, there must have been a fairly sizeable community of natives in the lake/river country in our area.

Nice find it's on my bucket list.
Ill keep digging!

Thanks, totally was not expecting to find artifacts that day, it just happened. I always try keep a eye out for points and other artifacts, while looking for agates.

Cool find...keep us posted on what the University tells you.

yes I will let you know with a update from University of Mn. This would be a first of this type of pipe for them to look at/study.

Are you kidding me? Awesome find !!!!!!!

Look how cool that thing is, I never knew there were stubby ones like that.

that is why the University wants to look at this one in person, they have seen several pipes before, but not like this one so much from my area. Thanks, I agree it was a awesome find, one that i did not expect that day. The material may suggest early to mid woodland I guess, from what the U of M is thinking now, but will know more Thursday I hope

I used to hunt Kentucky agates (bordin formation) in Estelle Co. my hunting partner once found a broken dovetail arrowhead that could have been one of the best right next to the Prettiest agate. Some people have all the luck like yourself. Many collectors spend a lifetime hunting and never find a piece of what you found. Good job.

I agree, I have thought about this often since finding this pipe, I have hunted agates in this same location many time, after rains i always hit this area, I sometimes wonder if the pipe found me,,,just so mind boggling when I spotted it, I just knew it was a odd shape, and different . Thank You, I cherish this like nothing I have ever found before

Nice pipe save........you are lucky. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool find!!

I sometimes wonder if the pipe found me,,,

Interesting thing to say, I got that strange sort of feeling not long ago when I found my first full point at my uncles place in NM. My older bro found 2 points and a half point the first time out.

He was satisfied and kicked back and relaxed with my uncle having beers.

Me an my younger bro just kept looking and looking and looking. Nothing but flakes... We even went out at midnight with flashlights thinking this may give us an advantage.
I saw rocks in my sleep- I had easily looked at the ground for 12 hours in 2 days....it was burned in my mind
The last day we looked again...same. Went back to my uncles place to help him make dinner.

I said to my little bro. "I'm going back up on the hill for 1/2 hour before dinner."

He said " I can't do it no more man, I'm done, have fun."

I am up there walking around looking in small patches of open areas. Sun is going down. My brother texts me, "dinner is ready."

Damn...

I text back "OK."

I take two steps and there it is. A whole point just sitting there. It's pink....nothing like we had found flakes of, the points my older bro found were white.

I pick it up and I just can't believe it. I thank God for allowing me to find it...and now I am obsessed with finding another. lol

It is a strange feeling, hard to explain....

Looking forward to seeing what they say about your pipe.

But the big question is; are you going to try it out? :)

Hi, true strange things happen when least expected, great story about your point you found, glad you found it. Probably will never try it out, wish this pipe could speak, and tell me all the stories . I still believe lots of artifacts are still out there, time and effort, and a little guidance from above helps us all to find them. They all have a story to tell.

Congrats on a great find...

Yeah -sorry to hijack your thread with my story. Got carried away there...

I too believe a lot of stuff is out there and not necessarily in remote places. So much private land that can't be accessed...

On this website alone there are nice finds everyday, and that's just from a handful of people

No apologies necessary, we are all here to show and learn. Good luck on your next outing.
